Micky's a winner, says Kuipers
Michel Kuipers looked forward to a reunion with the manager who first brought him to Albion and said: "Micky Adams is a winner."
The Seagulls' long-serving goalkeeper reckons the club have shown real ambition by bringing Adams in to replace Dean Wilkins as first team boss, despite having just finished a creditable seventh in League One.
Kuipers will be among the first teamers reporting back on Monday to meet the boss and receive fitness programmes for the close season.
Unlike the vast majority of his colleagues, the Dutchman will know what it is like to play for the former Leicester, Coventry and Fulham manager.
It was Adams who brought Kuipers to Sussex on a free transfer from Bristol Rovers, just in time for a 2000-01 season which ended in the Third Division title.
He took over a goalkeeping position for which Mark Walton and Mark Ormerod had previously competed and, from October 2000, made it his own.
The big Dutchman said: "Micky Adams is a great manager and it shows ambition from the club to bring him back.
"He has got great experience. He knows what it takes to get teams promoted.
"It's great to see the chairman and the board trying to invest in the future of the club on and off pitch.
"In the January transfer window they brought in Steve Thomson, Jonny Dixon and Glenn Murray, who cost £300,000.
"It shows the club are moving in the direction we all want, which is to the Championship and then, with the financial improvements when we get to Falmer, to push on from there."
Adams saw Albion in action several times last season. He listed Kuipers among the players who impressed him and admitted he has already had ideas as to how he would like the squad to look at the start of next season.
Fans will remember a hectic summer back in 1999 when he took charge of his first pre-season with the Seagulls.
Back then the likes of Paul Rogers, Charlie Oatway, Paul Watson and Darren Freemancame in to bolster what was expected to be a promotion push.
It took more freshening up the following year, when Kuipers, Bobby Zamora, Nathan Jones and Lee Steele were among the newcomers, to lay the foundations for back-to-back titles.
Kuipers would not comment on how much transfer activity there is likely to be this time but said: "He brought some great players to the club, people like Bobby Zamora.
"I think he has that respect from other managers in the game and that will help bring in good players because of his contacts.
"His experience will be a massive positive influence.
"Micky Adams is a winner. He is passionate about the game and he can bring players together.
"Wherever he has managed, his teams have shown real team spirit and a positive attitude. We will have to wait and see what happens but I know he is a very big fan of Brighton and Hove Albion. I'm looking forward to working with him again."

isn't it a shame that Kuipers cannot even acknowledge Dean Wilkins - well at least Nicky Forster did and that can't be said that he was one of 'deans youth team boys'

Shame on you Jo Jo. Kuipers had an outstanding season, played every game and was deservedly voted 3rd best player of the season. Why don't you & all the other negative snipers buzz off for the summer & don't come back.

I just don't see why a fan would choose some enthusiastic comments from one of our most improved players to take a pop at him. Paul Crichton has done in a few months what John Keeley failed to sort in 5 years and improved his kicking & distribution to match his shot stopping. I would like to see him properly rewarded with the Number 1 shirt next year.

All right lads, calm down. I'm sure Kuipers was just happy to see Micky back - doesn't say anything about Michel's views on Wilkins. Perspectives on players are always divisive, and each of us are entitled to our opinions. However, it's only Micky's opinion that counts at this point in time - and from past experience he knows what he's doing. Good enough for me.

Jo Jo, Kuipers has proved himself as a strong link in the time with an outstanding season. Last match I saw was the match against Forest, where Kuipers almost single-handedly got us the draw. I apologise for not having the 60+ years experience of supporting the team, but Kuipers has done a good job, fought for and kept his place despite strong competition (Henderson etc) - he's a great asset to the team. I'm sick of people sniping and moaning, let's get behind the team and cheer on the Seagulls to the championship!

You dont need to have supported the club for 60 years to see that Kuipers has been one of our best players this season. Kuipers is one of the reasons we finished so high up. UP THE ALBION!!!!

They tend to have an angle and will use the bits that fit. Just because it doesn't quote him talking about Wilkins doesn't mean he didn't say anything.

the funny thing is that magee, and wilkins did not think much of kuipers, and when the likes of henderson and co came the fans never took to them, what reallt worries me is how lloyd and adams will get on, i cant see adams signing some non league players, dixon wont be here very long, i can also see him putting cox in his place! as robinson, gatting and fraser, they will be binned, dont expect them to be at club come feb, as i remember adams he made players he did not want train with youth team, while wilkins did a good job, we must remember he had more money to spend than magee, and never got the side or the supporters really flying, adams will bring in winners, not nice guys who are yes men to wilkins and co.. do we need three coaches and adams on top? this season will be exciting, or a disaster.

jo jo. I think those advancing years must be taking their toll as you are obviously a complete fool if you think Michel had a poor season.
Just because you have been watching for 60 years does not make you an expert and I certainly don't think you're much of a supporter however many games you've been to as the definition is in the word - try some "support" for your team why dont you?

I'm sure Kuipers is only responding to a loaded question about Adams ! He did ok last year , still parrys the ball back to strikers a bit to often for my liking though

To have a go for Kuipers for not praising Wilkins is ridiculous. Firstly, as has already been mentioned, newspapers copy and paste to suit an agenda. Secondly, Kuipers has given Wilkins praise in previous interviews; besides, in all the games that Kuipers has had an outstanding, championship-esque performance, Wilkins always dismisses it as 'part of his job' and was never willing to give the big dutchman number 1. It is Wilkins problem, not Kuipers.

Michel Kuipers is a fantastic keeper and we are lucky to have such a quality keeper.
Anyone who saw the performance at Forst wil know that he kept us in the game with at least two saves that I would count as world class.
I've lost count of the amount of keeprs he has seen off during his time at the club and he shows no sign of his powers waning.
We have the spine of a great team and with a few additions I'm very positive for next season!!!
UP THE ALBION!!!!

Kuipers thoroughly deserved 3rd place in Player of the Year. He's been great and his kicking has improved no end.

anyone who thinks kuipers should be on his way, needs their head examined. who would you want to replace him? Henderson? Maybe we should go the whole hog and make the team invincible by releasing Forster and Elphick as well.

Kuipers has been immense all season. Isn't it strange how keepers are always the ones who come in for the stick but never get the credit they deserve? At least his contribution has been recognised by some on here.

Kuipers is just pointing out yet again what most of the players thought of Wilkins. Will you mugs just get behind this real manager for once.Wilkins was a stop gap, can't you people see that. For the club to move forward, and money to come into the club we needed a real manager.Don't care about Wilkins or hinshelwood and Loft.Coz take it from me they don't care about your lifes.
